Hi this is Jermaine and I and I have been laid off from school for 4 months. I was a student at sheridan college in the interaction design program in the fall of 2015. You see I only went to college because everyone believes it is the only way for me to get a career and a good job. However I was unmotivated in school and I felt I was being forced to go. You see my friends and family have made me suffer by telling me i would only be stuck working dead end jobs and menial jobs such as Mcdonalds and warehouse and grocery store related jobs. I have also had difficulty getting jobs in the past because I apply for a job and go for the interview but the employer never gets back to me, or they decide to reject me and move on to another candidate. Since I have been laid off and I asked a guy at the airport about jobs but he just called me a kid and told me I should go to school to learn which I thought was very disrespectful even if he should I go to gta jobs to apply for them. I wish people would stop forcing me to go to school and finish studies because it really pisses me off and stresses the hell out of me. Those guys just dont understand what i am going through. I need skills and training not being stuck in a classroom learning crap Ill never use in the workforce. I just go to school to make them happy but I have a lack of job experience. I have only worked 1 job my whole life which was being a newspaper carrier. So I am asking will this youth job connection help me find career with high salaries that will help me live a stable life and provide me the reliable training I need.

Please see below the following employment programs and services that we offer.
Employment Services:
Provides one-on-one counseling to address barriers within the employment sector. These services include; resume writing, job search techniques, interview skills, and mock interviewing. This service is geared towards assisting individuals in finding full time employment. This program is eligible for anyone living in Peel, looking for full time work, who are either unemployed or underemployed and not registered in full time school.
Youth Job Connection (YJC):
The program serves youth aged 15 to 29 who experience multiple and/or complex barriers to employment by providing more intensive supports beyond traditional job search and placement opportunities. These include:
• Paid pre-employment training to promote job-readiness;
• Job matching and paid job placements, with placement supports for participants and hiring incentives for employers;
• Mentorship services; and
• Education and work transitions supports.
Youth Job Connection is consist of two components:
Year-round component: Which provides intensive employment supports for youth aged 15 to 29 who
are not in employment, education or training and who experience multiple barriers to employment.
Summer component:
Launching in spring 2016, which will provide summer job opportunities and part-time job placements during the school year to help multi-barrier high school students, aged 15 to 18, make positive educational and career choices. The focus will be on those facing challenging life circumstances and at risk of experiencing poor transitions between education and work.
Please note that counselling walk in hours for Employment Service and Youth Job Connections are from Monday-Thursday, 9-11 Am and 1-3 PM.
Resource Centre:
In our self-directed resource center, we provide you with the tools and resources you need to find employment. These tools include fax machine, photocopy machine, computers with internet, WiFi and printing access, the use of a phone, plus a job board with a wide variety of positions posted. We also facilitate a wide range of employment skills and introductory computer workshops. The resource center is open to everyone in the community.
Hours: Monday: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Thursday: 8:30 am – 8:00 pm
Tuesday: 8:30 am – 8:00 pm Friday: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Wednesday: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Saturday: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Job searching and getting started in your career can be difficult, but know that perseverance is key, and you can succeed. Don’t give up! Education is important, and it is also important to find the right fit for you, whether that means going to school or gaining work experience and building employable skills.
The goal of the Youth Job Connection is to assist youth aged 15-29 who experience multiple and/or complex barriers to employment and are not in employment, education or training. The paid pre-employment training should provide resources to assist you with some of the issues you’ve mentioned, such as having success in interviews and how to follow-up with employers, as well as skills training for employment. Another component of the YJC program is job matching and paid job placements, with the result of gaining work experience
Our office is located in Aylmer, ON. It sounds like you’ve been in contact with someone facilitating the YJC program in Mississauga. If you are in that area, we’d recommend you connect further with the person you’ve contacted, Pixie Umadhay, to find out if you qualify for the YJC program, and get registered. If you do not qualify for YJC, meeting with an employment consultant would still be useful for receiving help with finding success in applying for, obtaining, and maintaining employment.
